Increase Website Traffic Best Practices

New Algorithm Changes the Way Google Ranks Websites

Anyone with a website is interested in increasing traffic. There are many ways to do this but with the changes made to Google’s search parameters over the past year, some of the methods previously employed by SEO companies are no longer viable. In the past, the quantity of links, articles and other online content materials have sufficed in order to increase web rankings and generate traffic. This is no longer the case, however. Google has recently incorporated several new algorithms to its search engine that now attempt to rank the quality of your online presence, not just the quantity.

White-hat SEO Triumphs

The methods and techniques for generating web traffic all fall under the scope of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but not all SEO practices are the same. To get the best results, it is necessary to stick to “white hat” methods. These are high quality, ethical techniques that drive legitimate traffic to websites. Questionable or unethical techniques, also known as “black hat” or “gray hat” techniques, which had been able to draw traffic, can now hurt your rankings and even get your site banned from Google and other search engines. Generate Quality Traffic & Improve Website Rank:

  1. On-page SEO – this refers to the coding and content of your website. Make sure that everything follows the updated webmaster guidelines. This includes removing any content that may be hidden, and creating high quality, relevant content for your website. Websites with high ad-to-content ratios, pointless content or numerous irrelevant links will be penalized. Check out more black hat techniques listed FYI.
  2. Google Indexing – Once your site is up to par according to Google’s webmaster, it should be submitted to Google for indexing. Google will scan your site, rank it and either accept or deny it. Once your site has been accepted, Google will index and categorize it among other approved sites. This will not only make your site easier for Google to find but also for other search engines. Submitting your site to other search engines will also help increase its visibility and improve your traffic.
  3. Off-page SEO – This refers to all traffic generating methods that are not on your website, such as articles, blogs, incoming links, social media and pay-per-click advertising. These are all useful and accepted methods of off-page SEO when used correctly. As with your on-page SEO, your off-page content must be of high quality, useful, informative and relevant. Google is now scanning incoming links for their quality, no longer just focusing on quantity. Too many links from poor quality sites can seriously hurt your rankings and traffic. Some of the best ways to generate high quality links are through blogging, high quality content and social media. Sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are great ways to obtain with the traffic your site needs and generate relevant links.
